Markham Veteran’s Square is a public memorial created to honour those who have served their country, while also commemorating Canada’s 150th year of Confederation.

Working in collaboration with Shelburne Memorials, HGH Granite was responsible for sourcing, engraving, and coordinating the installation of the granite elements within the space.

At the centre of the memorial is an obelisk made of steeled Stanstead Grey granite, standing over 30 feet high, which serves as the focal point of the cenotaph. HGH also carried out the engraving on the granite, ensuring clarity and consistency in the detailing.

The obelisk is surrounded by 13 granite maple leaves, representing Canada’s provinces and territories.

The maple leaves were fabricated in Laurentian Pink granite with a steeled finish, while the surrounding pavers were produced in Black Pearl granite with a flamed finish. The leaf shapes and cutouts were achieved using Waterjet CNC technology.

The completed memorial has become a popular place for reflection within the community – this is a project we’re very proud to have supported.
