Berczy Park

"As the masonry contractor on this project, we hired HGH Granite to supply the granite fountain and paving stones for this project. It was quite a complicated project with a lot of moving parts (material quarried in two different countries and manufactured in a third different country), a very tight timeline and extremely tight tolerances. HGH granite delivered a quality product and on time. We highly recommend HGH Granite for their quality and service and always enjoy working with their team."

We were thrilled to collaborate with Trinity Custom Masonry, and urban architects Claude Cormier and Associés of Montreal, to work on a new urban landscape project at Berczy Park in Toronto, Canada.

Berczy Park is a unique triangular shaped public plaza, in the heart of the Old Toronto district, with the iconic flatiron Gooderham Building at its eastern tip. The architects were briefed with revitalising the space to address the community’s evolving needs – their vision, to create a striking and fun communal space, where adults, children and dogs could come together. This entailed creating a geometric-patterned thoroughfare – a kind of ‘urban carpet’ – and a whimsical, two-tiered cast-iron Victorian fountain that doubled as a watering hole and splash pool for children and dogs.

HGH was engaged as the granite consultant on this project – and our sourcing capabilities allowed us to obtain granite from both Asia and Europe to get the unique colors required for the complex paving pattern. We also supplied the granite for the fountain basin, which has incorporated a drinking trough around the water feature – which we’re happy to say provides refreshment for the many dogs visiting the park daily!
