Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial

This memorial project, funded exclusively through the donations of Canadians, presented a number of logistical challenges, including a tight timeline leading up to Remembrance Day. The memorial design was created by Campbell Monument Company (CMC) and consisted of a series of large granite leaves, a granite soldier silhouette and benches.

Our team worked closely with CMC to ensure the end result was exactly as they had envisioned it to be. The granite pieces were made from Indian Red and Jet Black and were quarried and shaped in India. After the shaped and polished granite arrived in our facility, our customer remarked at the quality of the material and beauty of the craftsmanship. To ensure a smooth process, we remained in close contact with the customer throughout, providing regular updates on the status of fabrication and delivery.

Due to the size of the pieces, we built a much larger sandblast booth to accommodate the sandblast design work, which was to be engraved on the leaves. CMC provided the artwork and text for the memorial which we used for the engraving. Members of the media visited our facility during this process and documented the work because of public interest in the memorial. Once the pieces were complete we facilitated their delivery and installation with CMC, which took place in Quinte West’s Bain Park, a short distance from the start of the Highway of Heroes.
